Introduction

How do we build self-esteem for adolescents in the U.S? What is self-esteem? Self-esteem could be defined as: What our unconscious believes to be true about how worthy, lovable, valuable and capable we are. Self-esteem affects our trust in others, our relationships, our work – nearly every part of our lives. Positive self-esteem gives us the strength and flexibility to take charge of our lives and grow from our mistakes without the fear of rejection. This Web Quest will help students understand and discuss with their peers the pressures they experience. Students have the resources to turn the struggles they encounter into empowering narrative essays. Bullying, peer pressure, gangs, drugs and alcohol, body image and self-esteem are all complicated issues that makes surviving adolescence difficult.
